August in Crawfordsville and Montgomery County is about to become extra special as our community hosts the first Indiana Grand National Motocross Race.

Crawfordsville Main Street is working in partnership with other community groups to welcome the racing community and show our very special home to the world of in-person fans and the others who will listen and watch the races on radio, television, and mobile devices.

Citizens and visitors will soon see the result of months of effort to prepare for the race. City and county public safety officials have designed a comprehensive safety plan. The fountain at the Marie Canine Plaza is finally working. City parking lot flower beds were planted by the Flower Lovers Garden Club. The work of local artists is on display in store fronts along Washington Street because of collaboration between Art League members, the artists and building owners,

Weekend festivities begin at noon on Friday with Crawfordsville Main Street's Lunch on the Plaza followed by sidewalk sales that will continue through Saturday evening. On Saturday many of the vendors at the Farmer's Market will be open later than usual to sell the bounty of Indiana-August produce. Local museums will be open to showcase Crawfordsville's rich history: Lew Wallace Study, Lane Place, the Rotary Jail, the Carnegie Museum, and the Crawfordsville District Public Library. Local restaurants are prepared to satisfy cravings for coffee, Mexican and Chinese fare, pizza, burgers, and more.

Saturday's Finish Line Festival includes the Downtown Merchants' Cruz-in car show in the Court House parking lot at Washington and Market Streets. Main Street from Green to Washington Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic for an old-time community festival that begins at 5:00. Live entertainment by the popular Darlington Road Band on the Court House balcony on Main Street will add festival atmosphere to food vendors, a beer garden, artists, and games for children.

Crawfordsville is proud to host the Indiana Grand National Motocross Race. Enjoy the weekend. We'll see you next year!
