It has been anticipated and now it is here.

The eighth annual Art League Juried Downtown Art Exhibit kicked off Friday night under threatening skies, but it couldn't dampen the spirits of the 77 artists who were selected to participate in this year's event.

Those 77 artists came from 10 different surrounding counties and total 140 pieces of artwork.

The 140 pieces will be on display in the windows of 32 local businesses located on Green Street, Main Street and Washington Street.

The top award of the show went 2009 Wabash College graduate Nick Roudebush with his body of work "Stillness if Flux," "Tennen Even" and Shunyata (emptiness). The work was made out of clay. This earned the Best of Show honors.

The Montgomery County Tourism Commission Award went to Linden's Jeff Klinker with a work called "Lafayette Depot.

The 2009 Young Artist Award was presented to Crawfordsville's Matt Steele. His body of work was titled "Kelly- Angel in the Attic," "Welcome to the Great Rift Valley" and Cows in the Playground."

The event was judged by Anne Laker and Elizabeth Larsen Stoneberger.

The art will be on display until Oct. 4.
