Crawfordsville resident Luke Menard avoided an early departure from the hit TV show American Idol Thursday night.
Votes were cast for the men on Tuesday and for the women on Wednesday. The results were in on Thursday.
Colton Berry, Joanne Borgella, Amy Davis and Garrett Haley are heading home.
Heather Chaney, along with everyone else that remembered to Vote for Luke, helped ensure Menard would be on the show next week. She said that she voted for Menard 20 times.
"I thought he did well," she said. "I agree that some others stood out with better performances, but there were definitely ones that were much worse. I felt like you could tell he has great talent, it was just not the right song choice to show his full potential."
Chaney said that she did not jump on the American Idol bandwagon just because there was a local tie on the show, which is in its seventh season.
"I have been an 'Idol watcher and voter' since season 1," she said.
She is not the only one. Jennie Horner said she likes the show because it is a family show that everyone can participate in and voice their opinions, teaches to respect others opinions. It doesn't hurt that Luke Menard is on the show this year.
"This has put a small town on the map," Horner said.
Sarah Hutchison agrees.
"It shows you don't have to come from a big city to have big talent," Hutchison said.
She said that this week's performance did not really showcase all of Luke's talent.
So tune in next week as Luke Menard continues his quest to become the next American Idol.
