A group of Montgomery County residents are trying to collect money to purchase banner to support Crawfordsville's favorite American Idol, Luke Menard.
Melissa Jeffers of Crawfordsville said that they want to purchase a banner that reminds people to vote of Menard.
"It won't be up until Tuesday morning," Jeffers said. "The banner has to be made."
She said that the banner will cost $550. They still are looking for donations to pay for the banner.
"We have about 225 so far," she said.
Jeffers knows that it is time sensitive, but they did not find out Menard's fate until Thursday on Idol.
"We wanted to see how the votes went," Jeffers said. "We hope that he stays this coming week too."
As with any request to hang a banner across Main Street, it first requires approval from the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety.
"Due to the uncontroversial and time sensitive nature of this request, Mayor Coons is authorizing CEL&P to hang the banner over Main Street," according to a news release from the mayor's office. "The March 5 board of works has been cancelled due to lack of a quorum; however this request will be retroactively approved at the board of works meeting scheduled for March 12."
Crawfordsville Mayor Charlie Coons signed the release before distributing it.
Donation arrangements can be made by calling Jeffers at 225-1263, by stopping at Impress Hair Salon or by calling Brandy Plant at 364-9016.
"I just want the community to really support him," Jeffers said. "I don't think there has been enough done."
