Dr. Louis Metzman, M.D. of Athens Orthopedics, Sports & Occupational Medicine, and Kristin Paloncy, ATC/L, who is the Certified Athletic Trainer to Metzman attended the 2008 American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Meeting (AAOS) in San Francisco, California.
The AAOS Annual Meeting is the worlds foremost orthopedic medical education conference and is attended by approximately 10,000 Orthopedic Surgeons from across the United States and from around the world. This conference includes multiple orthopedic courses covering the latest state of the art orthopedic knowledge, an exhibit hall previewing the newest surgical instruments, and various medical and scientific publications.
Various up-to-date treatment techniques learned this week will be used at Athens Orthopedics, including the latest techniques for knees and shoulder arthroscopy, arthritis treatment, total joint reconstruction, carpal tunnel surgery, foot surgery and joint pain treatment in active and athletic patients.
"This was a great opportunity to make sure we in Crawfordsville are up-to-date on the latest advances in orthopedic techniques and treatments," Metzman said.
The AAOS Annual meeting provides CME courses to Allied Health Professionals such as Athletic Trainers and Nurses. This training enables support staff be educated on the latest techniques that the doctors are using. This is important because it creates consistency in treatment and also provides patients with a person to answer all questions and help guide them through their treatment.
"It is very important to us at Athens Orthopedics that all patients are treated with the highest level of care, and are confident in their treatment goals," Paloncy said. "The techniques I learned at this meeting will allow me to teach individuals how to better care for their injuries."
