Elks revving up for car show
By Carsten Lemkau

The Crawfordsville Elks Lodge # 483 is playing host to its sixth annual Car, Truck, & Motorcycle Show on the Lodge grounds on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Antique, classic, and specialty vehicles will be participating in the show. The lodge is just east of Crawfordsville on State Road 32.

This year's event, which is a fundraiser for the Elks Cancer Fund, will be combined with a Blood Drive. A Bloodmobile will be present from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration for show participants is from noon to 3 p.m. with a $10 donation. The first 100 participants will receive dash plaques.

Judging and voting will start about 3 p.m. and awards will be presented to the winners about 4 p.m. Awards will be given to the top 40 cars and trucks and the top five motorcycles. Additionally, there will be an Elks Choice award and a Mayor's Choice award.

A DJ will play '50s and '60s music and there will be drawings, including a Chinese Raffle, and door prizes throughout the afternoon. A band, the Hillbilly Shrine Band, will compliment the DJ. Additionally, several vehicles from the Ropkey Museum and a Crawfordsville fire truck exhibit are planned.

The event, which is co-hosted by the Ben Hur Car Club, is to raise money for the Elks Cancer Fund. Each year the Indiana Elks Association gives money directly to both Indiana and Purdue Universities for cancer research. Little, if any, of the donations are used for administrative purposes.

Last year about $265,000 was given to the schools. This year a Blood Drive has been added to the show since both are important to saving lives.

Food & drink will be served on the grounds during the show and a special dinner will be available after the show. In the evening the Soul Shakers will play. (This band was once known locally as Past Midnite.).

The Lodge will be open to the public. Admission to the event is free to spectators and open to the general public. Everyone is encouraged to meet and visit with the vehicle owners and enjoy the festivities. Any donations to the Elks Cancer Fund will be greatly appreciated.
