The local Culver's Restaurant is stepping up to the plate is again to help out the American Red Cross.

Denise Maxwell, Executive Director of the local Red Cross, has announced that on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the local Culver's will be participating in a day-long fundraiser for the Red Cross and the Haiti Relief fund. During that day, Culver's will be donating 10 percent of all proceeds to the Red Cross to be used in the Haiti relief effort.

"We are so excited about this event and very thankful to Culver's for making this happen," Maxwell said. "This is a great opportunity for us and we encourage everyone to come out that day and have a great meal and help out the Red Cross at the same time."

John York, owner of the local Culver's, said this is not just a local effort, but a national effort from Culver's.

"For about two weeks now more than 400 Culver's establishments have had canisters at their registers where people could drop in their change in an attempt to raise funds for the International Haiti Relief. Those canisters will remain there until Feb. 16 and on that day all the Culver's will also be donating a portion of the sales from that entire day to the Red Cross effort."

In addition members of the Red Cross Board of Directors and other volunteers will be volunteering their time to help out that day.

"They will be used as hospitality people," York said. "They will greet and meet with the customers, help keep the tables clean and bring out the orders. They will just have a lot of interaction with the customers."

This is not the first time the local Culver's has teamed up with the Red Cross in times of need.

"When the big floods hit southern Indiana we teamed up with the Indianapolis area Culver's to donate a big portion of one day's receipts to help those who lost so much in the floods," York said. "We are just honored to be able to offer our support to efforts such as these and we really appreciate our customers who come in to help out as well."

The local Culver's is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

"We invite everyone to come out and get some great food and help out those in need in Haiti," Maxwell said.
