WEST LAFAYETTE - Behind the strength of its underclassmen, Purdue University's men's basketball team knocked off Kentucky Wesleyan 74-52 in Monday's home exhibition game at Mackey Arena.
Senior Robbie Hummel finished with a game-high 14 points, while freshman Patrick Bade scored 12 and freshman Ryne Smith added 10 points off the bench.
Freshman and 2009 North Montgomery High School graduate D.J. Byrd scored seven points off the bench.
Byrd finished 3-of-6 from the field, including 1-of-3 from three-point range. He also added two assists, two steals and had two fouls and a turnover.
Kwan Waller led Kentucky Wesleyan with 16 points.
Purdue led 34-20 at halftime and outscored Kentucky Wesleyan by eight in the second half.
The Boilermakers also won the rebounding battle 40-30 and went 26-of-57 (45.6 percent) from the field.
